SIMON VAN DER BORGH
Lecturer in Screenwriting
A graduate of the National Film & Television School's Screenwriting programme, Simon has worked as a senior lecturer at the NFS in Leeds and for Screen Australia and the State Agencies running screenwriting workshops in Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. He currently oversees Screen Australia's Springboard programme which helps emergent Australian film talent such as AFTRS alumni Martha Goddard develop and produce short films that support their first features.
Simon also works regularly as a script consultant on feature
projects with
leading Australian film talen; Peter Duncan on his bio-pic about
speed skater Stephen Bradbury, Morgan O'Neill on the Sam
Worthington project Drift, Leigh Whannell on The
Mule, his follow-up to Saw, Anna Broinowski on the
Pauline Hanson project Please Expalin and Emily Ballou
(The Slap) on The Circus.
As a writer Simon has worked in Hollywood with directors like Peter Medak, Nick Hamm and Roger Spottiswoode (on an early draft of The Children of Huang Shi starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Radha Mitchell) and he is currently in development with Curtis Radclyffe on Shadow of the Witch. His screenplay of In Tranzit attracted John Malkovich and Vera Farmiga onto the movie which was released in 2009.
