The Cinematography department at AFTRS currently offers the following postgraduate level courses specifically for cinematographers:

 

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN CINEMATOGRAPHY FUNDAMENTALS

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE CREATIVE AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR THE SCREEN.

If you are an emerging cinematographer keen to expand and deepen your knowledge and training, this course will teach you to visualise, frame, light and interpret stories visually. If you are already working in a related area, such as camera assisting and stills photography, this course will support your development to become a cinematographer. You will also explore the important roles of the camera assistant and data wrangler, and the professional and technical attributes required to work as a cinematographer.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CINEMATOGRAPHY

EXTEND YOURSELF TO A NEW LEVEL OF CINEMATIC ACHIEVEMENT IN VISUAL STORYTELLING.

Combine your prior experience with opportunities to investigate and deepen your understanding of cinematography through collaborations with students from other specialisations in a variety of drama and documentary workshops, complex exercises, and research in screen histories. You will gain comprehensive experience across a broad span of digital and film formats. You will also have intensive 'hands on' experience to improve and develop your skills in lighting, operating, 3D image formation and VFX.

MASTER OF SCREEN ARTS*


DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A REAL IMPACT AND CREATE EXCELLENT WORK THAT CUTS THROUGH?


You will initiate and realise a major project that is only limited by your imagination and the resources AFTRS is able to provide. Hone your specialist skills through a tailored, in-depth and intensely practically focused course that will help you achieve mastery in your chosen area of specialisation, and also investigate Australian screen history and big philosophical and sociological ideas in action for context and meaning,. You will be supported to map out your own path in what is an increasingly competitive marketplace as you collaborate with others to achieve genuinely innovative work.


* Only open to AFTRS Graduates who completed a Graduate Diploma between 2009 and 2011. Applicants will need to have demonstrated a high degree of originality and assured craft skills to gain entry into the course.
