Applications for all 2012 academic year courses open on
September 1, 2011 and close on November 1, 2011.
Applying to a course at AFTRS is determined by the type of course you are considering.
Important information about the selection process:
- All courses at AFTRS are based on entry by merit selection.
- Each AFTRS award course has its own specific entry requirements.
- Each course requires specific tasks to be completed as part of the selection process (Application Tasks).
- Creative Portfolios are required as part of the application for most AFTRS award courses.
- Interviews will be conducted for all Graduate Diploma, Master of Screen Arts and Master of Screen Arts and Business courses. These will be held from 14 November through to mid December 2011. Shortlisted applicants should make themselves available for interview during this time.
- Applications for the Master of Screen Arts are only open to 2009 and 2010 AFTRS Graduate Diploma graduates and 2011 AFTRS Graduate Diploma students.

Steps to Apply
STEP 1: Choose your course. Use the Current Award Course list to find the right course for you.
STEP 2: Check the pre-requisites.
Make sure you check the pre-requisites of all courses you intend to apply for. You will find these on the Award Course detail page for each course. Check here the AQF level summaries as pre-requisites for 2012 AFTRS Award Courses.
STEP 3: To apply you will need:
- A valid email address.
- Details of the course/s you want to apply for (Name and Start Date).
- To be an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of an Australian Permanent Resident Humanitarian visa.
- A certified copy of your passport or birth certificate.
All AFTRS award courses require you to also complete Application Tasks. You will find these on the Award Course Detail page of each course.
STEP 4: Register Online
- From the Current Award Course List select the course you would like to apply for,
- On the Award Course Detail page click the green" Apply Now" button,
- Create a new account or login in using an existing account,
- Complete the online registration.
On completion of the online registration you will receive an
email to your nominated email address confirming your registration
and your unique application number. You will need this number later
in the application process.
Need help registering?
If you are having technical difficulties with our online
registration process you can either:
1. Download a pdf manual registration form and submit your
completed form to
AFTRS Student Services.
OR
2. Complete a web form which will email your completed details to
AFTRS Student Services.
Please only use these manual registration methods if you have tried
to register online and encountered technical difficulties.
STEP 5: Complete and submit your Application Tasks
- Prepare the Application Tasks specific to the course you wish to apply for.
- Ensure you complete and include your supporting documentation ie; applicant declaration and authority, curriculum vitae, referee questionnaire, etc along with your Application Tasks.
- Clearly label each of your application tasks with the title of the task, your name and the name of the course you're applying for.
- Check that you have included the correct number of copies requested.
- Incomplete applications will not be processed.
- Include a certified copy of your passport or birth certificate. If you were not born in Australia or New Zealand you will also need to provide a certified copy of your citizenship documentation or a certified copy of the visa page of your passport. If you've been a previous AFTRS award course student you are not required to re-submit a copy of your passport or birth certificate.

Your Application Tasks and supporting documentation must be received at AFTRS Sydney Campus on or before Tuesday 1 November 2011 (please allow 3-4 working days if posting from regional centres or interstate):

Applications will be accepted up until 11 pm Tuesday 1 November 2011. AFTRS Sydney Campus will be open extended hours from Saturday 29 October to Tuesday 1 November. The building will open at 8.00am and close at 11.00pm during this time.
Additional information
- Please do not send original documents.
- If you would like your application returned to you please include a self-addressed post bag or arrange collection from Student Services at AFTRS after January 2012.
Late Applications
AFTRS may consider requests to submit Application Tasks after the closing date.
Conditions:
- Extensions will only be granted for full applications to reach AFTRS by Monday 7 November 2011.
- Your request for an extension, including reasons, must reach AFTRS on or before 1 November 2011.
- You must have completed the online registration prior to 1 November 2011 in order for your request to be considered.
- Submit your request via email to studentinfo@aftrs.edu.au.
- AFTRS will advise you in writing of the outcome of your request.
After you Apply
All correspondence from AFTRS to the applicant will be via email, including notification on the success or otherwise of your application. Applicants must check their email regularly, ensure the email address provided is accurate and advise any changes to AFTRS Student Services immediately.
Offers to courses commencing in 2012 will be emailed to successful applicants prior to 25 December 2011. Unsuccessful applicants will also be advised via email.
How to Accept your Offer
If you receive a letter of offer you will be required to either accept or reject that offer by the due date. To accept or reject your offer log into the myaftrs portal using the same user name and password you created when you registered online.
