Current AFTRS Graduate Diploma Producing student Peter Mether made news in the Sydney Morning Herald recently as the shoot for his short film SpiritED got underway in Sydney.
Peter has managed to secure British actress Miriam Margolyes (from Harry Potter) for the lead role, with a strong list of Australian actors rounding out the cast including Sonia Todd (Shine, McLeod's Daughters, Police Rescue, Home and Away), Bruce Spence (Australia, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Finding Nemo), Kieran Darcy-Smith (Animal Kingdom, The Square, September, Two Hands) and 9-year old actor Karl Beattie (X-men Origins - Wolverine Accidents Happen, Griff the Invisible).
Set in 'Divinity', a school for guardian angels, SpiritED charts the perilous adventures of two young angel students, Edmund and Grace, on a quest to earn their wings. Success will allow them to venture beneath the clouds to watch over a recently orphaned boy Joshua.
Peter has plans to develop the short into a feature and to make "a fun fantasy film in Australia that will also entertain international audiences."
Peter Mether is the writer/director for SpiritED and is joined by fellow AFTRS students Shannon Wilson (Graduate Diploma in Screen Business) and Brad Smith (Graduate Diploma in Screen Business) as producers. AFTRS graduate David Ingram (Production Design, 2004) is on board as Production Designer.
